Know Your Hair Type

Understanding your hair type is crucial before diving into tips and products. Each hair type has specific needs, whether it's straight, wavy, curly, or coily. Here’s a simple breakdown to guide you: Record which hair type you are before moving on.

  1. Straight Hair: Typically resilient but can easily become oily and lack volume. Doesn't hold a curl very well.

  2. Wavy Hair: This type is prone to frizz and requires products that focus on moisture and curl definition. Tends to hold a curl somewhat.

  3. Curly Hair: Needs deep hydration since natural oils struggle to reach the ends. Look for products designed for curls.

  4. Coily Hair: Benefits from intense moisture and is more susceptible to breakage, making proper care even more important.

By identifying your hair type, you can tailor your hair care routine to meet its unique requirements, setting the stage for beautiful wedding day locks.

5 Must-Do's for Healthy Hair

1. Consistent Trims

Cutting your hair might seem counterproductive if you want to grow it long. However, regular trims are vital for maintaining healthy hair. Aim for a trim every 8+ weeks to minimize split ends and reduce breakage. If your ends start to split, they will continue splitting and breaking off. You want to trim them before they start splitting. This gives your hair strand a blunt cut and allows it grow healthy sand long. Trimming can improve hair growth by as much as 20%, ensuring your hair remains vibrant and full as you approach your wedding day. Ask your hairstylist to " dust the ends of your hair". That literally means take off the bare minimum on your ends-just enough to eliminate any splits that may be starting.

2. Hydration is Essential

Healthy hair starts with hydration. Incorporate hydrating shampoos and conditioners into your hair care routine, and treat yourself to a deep conditioning treatment once a week. Look for products containing nourishing oils like argan, avocado, shea or coconut oil, which provide the moisture your hair craves. If hair is moisturized, it allows the hair strand to grow healthy.

My favorite moisturizing and hydrating hair masks are below:

3. Limit Heat Styling

To grow beautiful long hair, reducing heat damage is crucial. Air-drying your hair is the safest option whenever possible. If you need to use heat tools, always apply a high-quality heat protectant. Consider heat-free styling techniques, like braiding your hair overnight for natural waves or using foam rollers. My new favorite tool is Heatless curls! You can wrap your hair at night, sleep and wake up to beautiful bouncy curls. Cutting back on heat styling can decrease damage by up to 60%! Grab your Heatless Curl Set Today!

4. Choose the Right Hair Products

Selecting the right products can significantly impact your hair journey. Here are some must-have items. For my full list of specific products and supplements click here

  • Sulfate-Free Shampoo: Opt for sulfate-free products to prevent stripping natural oils.

  • Leave-In Conditioner: This provides extra moisture and protects your hair all day.

5. Nourish from Within

Healthy hair begins on your plate. Make sure your diet includes plenty of vitamins, minerals, and proteins. Fantastic options include:

  • Fish: Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, promoting hair growth.

  • Leafy Greens: High in vitamins A and C, essential for producing sebum, the body's natural conditioner.

  • Nuts and Eggs: Packed with protein and biotin, crucial for hair health.

Staying hydrated is just as important; aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day.

The Impact of Supplements

If you still do not see the desired results, consider adding hair-boosting supplements. Biotin, Vitamin E, and Omega-3 fatty acids are known for their benefits. Always consult a healthcare professional before introducing new supplements to your routine to ensure safety and effectiveness. My clients have seen real results with Sugar Bear gummies, Nutrafol, Redken Extreme length Shampoo and Conditioner, Biotin, Rosemary oil for your scalp or Nioxin and Minoxidil Products. You can find them all here and read up on what might be best suitable for you.

Managing Stress Effectively

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, and stress can sometimes negatively affect hair growth. To combat stress, remember that your wedding day is is about you and your fiance. It's a day for you both to unite your family and friends and celebrate your love. Do your relaxing yoga classes, go for a walk, have a glass of wine and enjoy each other. Don't let the stress of planning a wedding affect you. Prioritizing mental well-being is as essential as your physical hair care.

Last-Minute Touch-Ups

As your wedding day approaches, consider these final touch-ups to ensure your hair looks its best:

  • Scalp Care: Don’t neglect your scalp! A healthy scalp encourages hair growth. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub once a month to keep it clean and free from buildup. I use a rubber scalp massager in the shower and it is amazing!! Not only does it increase blood flow and stimulate hair growth but it's relaxing and feels incredible. They're in-expensive too. Here's the one I have: Scalp Massager

  • Decide on Your Style: Choose your wedding hairstyle well in advance and practice it before the big day. Being familiar with your look will help you feel more confident.

  • Hairstylist Trials: Book trial appointments with your hairstylist to experiment with different looks. This is an excellent way to find perfect styles and ease any last-minute stress. Contact us today to book your consultation.
